Chris Buxton is a recognised thought leader and international speaker, in digital operations and unleashing data. He is the former Chief Digital Officer and Chief Information Security Officer at Statistics New Zealand. He is a champion of big data and analytics to drive citizen engagement and drive performance; and has led strategic initiatives to transform his department into a centre for innovation, flexibility, adaptability and responsiveness to customer needs.
Chris has extensive experience in the data field with previous roles in the UK and NZ Defence and intelligence communities specialising in Cryptography, Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence. Prior to joining Stats NZ Chris was the Chief Information Officer for the NZ Foreign Intelligence Agency, Government Communications Security Bureau. In this role, he led the delivery of data processing, analytic and visualisation capabilities, as well as national and international digital federation and interoperability.
