A consortium of financial and fintech associations across the Asia- Pacific would contribute to a University of Cambridge / Monash University / Tsinghua University study on digital and alternative finance.

The Cambridge Centre for the Alternative Finance at University of Cambridge, the Australian Centre for Financial Studies at Monash University, and the Graduate School at Tsinghua University are teaming up with industry bodies across the Asia-Pacific and launching the largest regional study to date on alternative finance.

The main focus area for the study would be crowdfunding, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending, and business lending and would aim to highlight the key trends, developments, and growth of alternative finance markets across the region. In addition, focus would be placed specifically on the changing role of regulation across the sector.

Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance director, Bryan Zhang, said the 2017 survey would built of initial research from last year and would look more closely at the development of growth dynamics across Asia and Oceania.

“This year’s survey aims to capture the development, diversity and dynamism of the crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending markets across the region, in turn, inform evidence-based policymaking and regulation,” he said.
